What Causes Myopic Progression?

Myopia occurs when the light that enters the eye is not focused correctly on the retina. This can be a consequence of the eyeball being too long or the cornea being more curved than it should be. Due to the way that the light is focused, objects that are far away appear blurrier than they should.

As your child grows older, they may experience myopic progression, meaning their nearsightedness will get worse over time. This is often the result of their eyes continuing to grow longer as they develop. Factors such as genetics, overexposure to digital screens, and not spending enough time outdoors can also potentially contribute to the worsening of myopia.

If myopia continues to progress unmanaged, it could increase the risk of your child developing glaucoma, cataracts, and other serious vision issues later in life.

The MiSight 1-Day Process

The MiSight 1-day process involves special soft dual-focus contact lenses. Said lenses are designed to be worn for only one day each, so your child will wear a new pair every day. While your child is wearing the MiSight lenses, they’ll enjoy clearer vision. On top of that, the lenses help focus light in front of the retina at its peripheral regions. This helps slow down the elongation of the eye, thus addressing the root of myopic progression.

What You Can Expect from MiSight 1-Day Contact Lenses

MiSight 1-day contact lenses are a proven method for slowing down myopia and are recommended for children between the ages of 8 and 12. They are considered very safe to use, and many children openly prefer them to glasses. The lenses require almost no maintenance, and they can be comfortably worn during the day without issue.

When worn regularly, MiSight 1-day contact lenses can potentially slow the progression of myopia by around 50%. That said, you do need to be prepared to replace the lenses on a daily basis. Also, you’ll need to bring your child to our office for follow-up appointments so that we can check to see how their eyes are responding to the treatment. We encourage you to let us know if you have any questions about MiSight or your child’s myopic progression.
