
As an optometrist who plays badminton, I understand eye injuries from both sides of the exam chair. I have personally experienced a corneal abrasion, which is a scratch on the clear front surface of the eye. Even a small abrasion can be extremely painful, causing tearing, light sensitivity, blurred vision, and the feeling that something is stuck in the eye.
My experience reinforced something I tell patients often: protecting your eyes is much easier than treating an injury after it happens.
